Celebrate & Cherish Children Of All Ages

Amidst a week of party tips, this one hits close to home: Celebrate & Cherish Children of All Ages

A couple weeks ago, Ryan and I flew back to my home state of California, for a beach weekend in Santa Cruz. There was a greater purpose for this celebration: to celebrate the very important, precious life of my grandmother. She wanted to gather the family by the beach and watch the dolphins (which we did, and they were spectacular).

What made this trip particularly "bittersweet", was the fact that it was not only a gathering to celebrate, but also to say goodbye. Just 8 short weeks ago my grandmother was leading a swim class and singing in the choir she adores (she has a lovely voice, I consider her to sing as beautifully as her favorite star, Judy Garland--I think she looks a bit like her, too). Then, she was shockingly diagnosed with a devestating terminal illness, given little time to live.

My stylish grandmother is quite the social butterfly, and has unbelievable talent when it comes to baking, entertaining, decorating, painting, crocheting, sewing...she made my sister Julia & I beautiful dresses, and giant Raggedy Ann Dolls. She and I recently discussed how much we love to watch Martha Stewart, and enjoy her cook books.

Filled with the sweetest memories of holidays spent with her and my grandfather, it was difficult to imagine how I would go about my life without her in it--but far more difficult to imagine how my grandfather, father and uncle will go about living without her. She is such an important part of all our lives. She and I have always had a special bond, ever since I was little. Celebrating the happiest day of my life (my wedding day) together with her, literally had us both glowing.

(wedding photos property of Miki & Sonja Photography--two of the most BRILLIANT wedding photographers you will ever come across).

I consider it the greatest compliment when I am told that I look like her. She is so very beautiful in my eyes, inside and out.

Over 62 years have passed since she and my precious grandfather were married, and they still look like such the suave couple.

It is so very, very important to celebrate the lives of those around us, and this particular weekend when we gathered it reminded me of the importance to celebrate the lives of children of all ages.

It coincidentally was on my grandmother's 81st birthday (she ended up back in the hospital within hours of arrival to the beach house, therefore she couldn't enjoy the weekend we all dreamed of--so we all gathered near her by her bedside instead), that I was given the blessed opportunity to hold her in my arms one last time, to embrace her, talk with her, learn from her, listen to her, and tell her how much I love her.

My grandfather, who I haven't mentioned much in this post, is actually the inspiration for all of this--he wrote the greatest birthday wish, ever.

His love, tenderness, care and strongest love for my grandmother, was what brought us all to tears. He never left her bedside, read the Bible to her for comfort, and had unbelievable strength. This is the marriage partnership we all dream of. And I am a romantic through and through, and boy, apparently my grandfather is too:

My grandmother is resting at home in the loving care of my grandfather, with much love and support from my uncle, aunt, my father and mother, with the help of hospice now too.

She did make a special request: to see the dolphins. We all saw them when she was taken to the hospital. My uncle, aunt and grandfather are going to do whatever it takes to make that dream a reality. She raised her family in a small California town called "Tranquility", and I snapped a shot of the sign on the side of their house, which I found fitting for my wishes for her now. I hope she experiences tranquility when she sees the dolphins. She said, in her hospital bed, she considers them "lucky."

While my grandmother doesn't have a computer and won't see this post, I will call her tomorrow, tell her I love her, and thank her for her love, courage, strength, grace, and the greatest gift she blessed me with--the gift of life.

And that, is something to celebrate.--Kate

Children's Cloth Napkins

It's A Week Of Party Tips!

There may be another post here or there, but I wanted to share with you some fun party tips that will help make your next event classic, stylish, more eco-friendly, and loaded with charm!

Today's Tip: Using child-size cloth napkins will add to the excitement and importance of the celebration, in a child's eyes. Not to mention they can be more eco-friendly, stylish, sophisticated, and help teach manners at a young age! Mult-purpose product indeed!

I believe that children associate cloth napkins with special occasions--whether it is dinner at a fancy restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, or maybe a wedding. I love for children to feel truly celebrated on their birthdays, and therefore I think cloth napkins are a great simple way to add a special touch to the party.

I wanted to create a line of cloth napkins that were perfect for a child's lap, and came up with the perfect size.

Gingham is sweet as well, and we are thrilled to offer gingham napkins as well (new colors available soon)!

I wanted something durable, and soft on a little lap.

Of course style is important, and to make these napkins unique, I decided to add rick rack trim, to make them a bit more playful, and an excellent way to tie in two colors of your color-scheme.

One of my personal favorites is the classic white with white rick rack, as it is so versatile in use, can be used with almost any color-scheme or theme, and easy to wash.

All of our custom cloth napkins are machine washable, you can dry on low heat and press as needed.

Update: Kate Landers Events, LLC Exciting News

A tremendous thanks to all who are sharing in my excitement for the incredible opportunity that has been given to me and Kate Landers Events, LLC.

My husband got a phone call from his brother yesterday asking, "Is Kate pregnant, and are you having a girl?" We laughed with light hearts, and let him know that no, that was not the big exciting news I was referring to (though that would be such a blessing, hopefully some day will be the case!).

Unfortunately, I believe my post with the hint in the photo, gave the wrong "hint" in many cases, so my deepest apologies!
To set the record straight, and share another BIG hint, what I am referring to is the incredible gift of the first publication of Kate Landers Events, LLC, in a national magazine!

I received my copies on Wednesday, and am absolutely over the moon. As soon as it hits newstands and I get the okay, I will delightfully share it with you, as I believe you will enjoy it, find it helpful and inspirational, and learn a lot about myself and Kate Landers Events, LLC, that you never knew before!

It features over 8 pages for my story, each of which contain the most stunning photography this publication offers in every one of its issues (I believe every friend and family member will be getting a subscription to it, that doesn't already have one, from me this year). This publication offers not only incredible style, but spectacular substance as well.

I am still pinching myself to check that this is really happening, as it is a blessing and dream come true. I feel so fortunate to have been given this opportunity, and for those of you who somehow managed to already take a peek at the issue and have e-mailed me--thank you, thank you, thank you, for your incredibly kind words of support!

Now there is ANOTHER exciting opportunity that inspired my call out for all of you who love to plan parties for children, and that opportunity is not the press release about Kate Landers Events, LLC--but rather something I look forward to sharing with others who share my passion for planning children's parties!!! I am beyond ecstatic about it, and will share more details as soon as possible.

A tremendous THANK YOU to all who have contacted me thus far, I have been blown away by the vast number of responses, and can't wait to read each and every single one of your e-mails and visit your blogs and websites and give each and every one of you the time and attention you deserve (wow, some absolutely AMAZING parties and creative people out there, it is beyond my wildest dreams to discover that so many people share this wonderful passion!).

I encourage those of you who haven't yet contacted me, to please introduce yourself, send me your blog/website/facebook page, as I would absolutely love to get to know you, and share this opportunity with you!

Real Inspiration From The TomKat Studio

Kim from The TomKat Studio has completely blown me away with her amazing talent and skill on her son Tommy's Crab Shack-themed Birthday Party. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after looking through all the incredible photos of her party (taken by the talented Vicki Lynn)--I was so inpsired, so totally blown away.

Kim has designed, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest children's sweet displays, ever. I have not once featured another designer's work on my blog before, but I was so incredibly inspired by Kim and her party she styled, I absolutely had to share it with you. Her attention to detail (as you know, I do love the details) was what "had me at hello" so to speak (in reference to one of my favorite movies, Jerry McGuire). No more chit chat, take a look for yourself:

The overall look: spectacular, striking, stunning.

Kim is an inspiration herself, in terms of a talented graphic designer who provides some of the cutest party imprintables for hundreds--no, make that thousands. She's also a mom of two beautiful children, a lovely wife to her husband, and did I forget to mention she is a correspondent for Home Goods (yes, the Home Goods) and Project Nursery? Oh, and that her darling products were just featured in the July issue of InStyle magazine in Amy Atlas' ice cream feature (Amy, by the way, who is a tremendous inspiration to me, is also one to Kim, and Kim is so forthcoming and acknowledges all who inspired her for this party).

Yes, I see this as the start of many, many great things to come for Kim. She has two lovely new team members for The TomKat Studio (Andrea and Toni, if you are on twitter they are worth following for all "The TomKat Studio Insider Info" @TKS_Andrea and @TKS_Toni), and I believe it won't be long until she will be featured to inspire you in a stylish magazine.

Thank you Kim, for allowing me to share my incredible feelings of gratitude for what you do, and for being a tremendous inspiration to me.

Enough chatter: go see the rest of the party!
